The 4 Secret Muscles: Anatomy Oriented and Experimental

Small changes eventually add up to huge results. Because human body is a big system where each part or sub-system connect with others as union, small parts of your body can make a big improvement in your practice if you know how to use them well. Despite of their small size or how they hide themselves in the depth, these muscles have amazing potential to perform necessary functions, reduce chances of getting injured and enable you to go a bit more beyond what you might have thought you could.

Each session of “The 4 Secret Muscles” focuses on functions of one particular muscle you might have never paid much heed before. This also includes its related bones and connective tissues to help you see how they affect each other and make your body moves as a whole. Once you discover these hidden parts of your body, connect with them and learn how to use all these small gadgets to the fullest, they become your powerful devices to ease your postures and level up your practice.

You don’t need to be an anatomy geek to join these workshops. You just need to be curious about your body, attentive to every small changes in your practice, and confident in your hidden potential.

Adductor Magnus

Date: Jan 21, 2017

Time: 9.30 AM – 12.30 PM

We were born with lots more and bigger external hip rotators than internal ones. Adductor magnus is one of the few. Contrary to this fact, its job is very vital in every step you take and every time you need to be grounded. Balance out this imbalance by giving them more attention. So that your walking gait becomes more graceful, and your postures come with both senses of stability and freedom.

  • Explore the movement of lower limbs
  • Flow through the series of asanas for adductor magnus
  • Create stability and freedom in backbend
  • Stretch your adductor magnus actively and passively

Psoas

Date: Jan 21, 2017

Time: 2.30 – 5.30 PM

Though you might have ever heard about psoas muscle, perhaps this is the most mysterious one. A primary connector between the torso and the leg, psoas is an important muscle of core and backbend poses. It is also a key for anyone suffering from back pain. So if you spend whole day sitting at desk and tightening your psoas for hours a day, this workshop is exactly what you need!

  • Address where psoas is and its functions
  • Experiment the most effective way to stretch psoas
  • Practice a smart asana sequence for psoas
  • Learn some key functions to bend backward

Serratus Anterior

Date: Jan 22, 2017

Time: 9.30 AM – 12.30 PM

If you have ever wondered of what was really supporting you while you are in Handstand and many arm balance poses, these lesser-known muscles have major role. Serratus anterior are ideally situated for positioning and stabilizing the shoulder blades where the stage is set for the alignment and the lift. Bonus: your punch will be heavy as iron hammer if you have these Bruce Lee’s muscles strong.

  • Move your shoulder blades using their related muscles
  • Strengthen serratus anterior using some exercises
  • Play around with series of asanas for shoulder blades
  • Equip arm balance, backbend and inversion with your strong serratus anterior

Pectoralis Minor

Date: Jan 22, 2017

Time: 2.30 – 5.30 PM

Living in a society of sedentary life, sitting in front of your computer or behind the steering wheel for hours, or walking all day with your backpack, all these activities tighten your pec minor, create the slouch and limit your backbend. So you cannot just blame your tight shoulders for being a major problem of your backbend until you do your best to stretch this minor muscle.

  • Feel where your pec minor is and its function using some simple exercises
  • Make use of pec minor in some arm balance and twist
  • Prop yourself for a deep stretch for pec minor
  • Enjoy the sense of freedom in backbend
